dA Is Not Facebook

Some people treat DeviantArt as a dump site for their snapshots of themselves, their family, their party times with zero attempt at creativity. The only watchers/watchees they have are people like them with similar photo dumps.

That's not art. That's attention whoring. Take it to Facebook, MySpace, Xanga, or any of the dozens of sites devoted to social networking if you don't respect this place.

dA was created by artists for artists as a mechanism for appreciation, networking, sharing, and education... using it as Flickr or Facebook is an abuse of this website and a waste of everyone's time.

My message is not "keep away unless you're an artist." Rather, GIVE ART A TRY. At least pretend you respect this wonderful free service and its unique existence.

Not an artist? Bullshit. Make an effort. Write your first poem. Take a picture of something other than your bewbs or drunken pals. Play with Photoshop filters. Go nuts and favorite a few gigabytes of awesomeness from the dA firehose of galleries.
